I taught three semesters during my time at Michigan: two semesters as a discussion leader of Introduction to Cognitive Psychology, and one semester as the primary instructor for Educational Psychology and Human Development.
Educational Psychology and Human Development - Fall 2015
Pre-service teachers have just one semester of educational psychology at Michigan, so I worked to give my future math, science, and music teachers concrete tools they could apply to their day-to-day work in schools. We covered how psychological research can better inform their teaching, and also carefully evaluated the evidence for particular practices, curricula, and instructional techniques.
Introduction to Cognitive Psychology - Winter 2014, Winter 2015
Memory, attention, reasoning: these capacities can determine how successful we are at school and work. During these sessions, I helped my students understand how cognitive psychology underpins much of their learning -- from retrieval practice and spacing to multitasking and metacognition.
